Madras / Chennai airport in India

Madras / Chennai International Airport is located at Thirisulam, near Pallavararam and is situated at about 15 kilometers away from the heart of the city of Chennai. Chennai is the most important airport in South india,  for arrivals and departures  and for connecting all the southern states.  The airport is being operated by the Airport Authorities of India (AAI)  and at present there is an extensive upgrade which is happening  and is expected to be carried out  by the end of the year 2011.

There are two terminals in the Chennai airport, they are

  • Kamaraj Terminal for handling the domestic flights  
  • Anna terminal for handling the International  flights.

Both the terminals are interconnected and when the present upgradation gets completed,  there will be a new Domestic terminal  and an expanded international terminal with more facilities.

Besides 'Indian' airlines several International carriers, namely, British Airways, Lufthansa, Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Air Lanka, Oman Air, Gulf Air, Saudia Airlines and many more  are operating flights to and from Chennai. Chennai airport connects more then 20 domestic destinations in India as well as major international destinations like London, Frankfurt, Dubai, Muscat, Bahrain, Dhahran, Jeddah, Singapore, Kula Lampur and Sri Lanka.
